Historic Hotels

Moonee Valley has been the home of many significant pubs over the generations, with many now sadly demolished or with extensive alterations.  The Quiet Man Hotel in Racecourse Road, Flemington  - on the border of Moonee Valley - has been marked as a development site, with a proposal for the old hotel  to be demolished.  This follows on from the controversial demolition of the Corkman Irish Hotel in Carlton.

Moonee Valley Library has some historic photographs in the collection of some hotels in the area.  If you have any old photos of local hotels we would love to see them - contact the Community Heritage Librarian on 8325 1950.

The Royal Historical Society also has a current exhibition "Standing on the Corner" featuring hotels and other prominent corner buildings around old Melbourne.

This photo from the library collection shows the Moonee Ponds Hotel at Moonee Ponds Junction.  The hotel was demolished in the mid 1970s.

The site Walking Melbourne site also has some interesting photos of Moonee Ponds Junction and the local area.
